The Area

The River House is located just outside the charming town of Brevard, outdoor activitiesNorth Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and is also known as  “The Land of Waterfalls”. The River House is just 30 minutes from Asheville and Hendersonville and a 60 minute drive to Greenville, South Carolina.

Brevard has about  250 waterfalls, beautiful rivers and countless streams to discover and explore. The Pisgah National Forest is a 5 minute drive from the house where the temperate rain forest supports some of the most magnificent and rare flora, fauna and wildlife; and the Dupunt State Forest is a 10 minute drive, and where part of the Hunger Games was filmed. Both parks offer mountain biking, hiking, rafting, tubing, rock climbing, horseback riding, cycling, fly fishing, picnicking, and miles of paved roads for scenic driving.

The River House is located five minutes from the Glen Cannon Golf Course. Glen Cannon Country Club’s par-72, 6,548 yard layout is one of the finest courses in Western North Carolina. If features bermuda grass fairways and bent grass greens are maintained in top condition year round. Water comes into play on 14 of our 18 holes. With gentle hills and short distances from green to tee.

Brevard is more than just the outdoors mecca it is a also an art and music destination. Home to the world renown Brevard Music Center, and is one of this country’s premier summer training programs and festivals. Known for our famous White Squirrel Music Festival in downtown Brevard, which offers two days of free music, arts & crafts, food, children activities and so much more. Another  favorite is the Steep Canyon Rangers, a very talented local Blue Grass Band who often tours with Steve Martin. They’ve even played at the White House.

You can attend the symphony, theatre, take in a live music show from bluegrass to reggae, stroll through numerous art galleries, go antiquing, and explore the many independent and fabulous boutique shops. Many of the art studios offer courses in pottery, painting, and photography. And of course, the not to be missed tour of the Biltmore Estate.
